T. Hasan Johnson received his Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University in summer of 2007. A 2006 Ford Dissertation Diversity Fellow, he currently teaches at Pitzer College in the Intercollegiate Department of Black Studies and the International and Intercultural Studies Department. He also teaches at California State University, Dominguez Hills in their Africana Studies and Social & Behavioral Sciences Departments. His research focuses on Africana resistance cultures and media within Africana communities. His work also emphasizes how political ideology, icon-construction, identity-formation, and the imagination have been used as tools for social agency, cultural development, and political mobilization.
